Vladislav Doronin, businessman and owner of Aman resorts, talks to Carsten K. Rath about the Aman feeling.
You run a world-class organization, and I have had the pleasure of staying at some of your hotels. I am a hotelier myself and used to work for luxury hotels such as the Ritz-Carlton. We have always considered Aman to be the ultimate in luxury. You are not a hotelier by birth, but instead a businessman. What made you decide to invest in the ultra-luxury segment of the hotel industry?
Investing in Aman has been a personal story for me. I discovered Aman in 1990 when I was living and working in Hong Kong. I love to travel, so I visited the Amanpuri Hotel, the first Aman hotel ever. After my stay, I was hooked on the service, the privacy, and the whole Aman experience. I continued to stay at Aman hotels whenever possible. I knew I was getting the full package at my destination, that unique Aman feeling that is private and very personal. It is like visiting the home of a good friend.
A home away from home – that’s what I read about the Aman feeling.
Indeed, but it is a very nice home.
